Sale Water Park‘s 52-acre lake began as a gravel pit, dug around 115 feet deep to supply the embankment that carries the M60 above the Mersey floodplain, before being flooded to create the 152-acre park that opened in 1979. It still doubles as a flood basin for the river today, and the adjoining Broad Ees Dole nature reserve shelters migratory birds on the water park’s edge. Sale itself was part of Cheshire until the 1974 boundary changes moved it into Trafford. It’s this working mix of Mersey-side geography and suburban growth that shapes what landscaping in Sale actually needs to deliver.
